Food Bank of the Rockies and other local charities partner with Monarch Casino Resort Spa to make a difference during Hunger Action Month

Wednesday, October 30, 2019 — One in 10 people in Colorado are food insecure and often don’t know where their next meal is coming from- and now you can help. Slots players at Monarch Casino Resort Spa can now donate the extra change from their winnings easily and quickly to Food Bank of the Rockies, the American Cancer Society of Colorado, Foothills Animal Shelter, or the Navy SEAL Foundation.

Food Bank of the Rockies provides hungry people with healthy meals in Colorado and Wyoming. In fact, nearly half the people receiving food donations are children. It can’t provide those meals without the help of generous donors.

“Donations like this allow us to keep our costs down, and help us distribute food to more than half a million people each year,” said Mitch Jelniker, corporate relations manager with Food Bank of the Rockies. “One dollar helps provide four meals through the Food Bank of the Rockies.”

Here’s how it works: let’s say you win $100.49 at the slots. Instead of having that 49 cents jangling around in your pocket, you can donate the change to one of four charities through a new Giving Module offered by slot manufacturing company, Everi. After you cash out at Monarch Casino Resort Spa, all you do is take your voucher to a ticket kiosk featuring the Giving Modules, then choose where you would like to send your donation.

“The community supports us in such a fantastic way and we are honored to help give back through wonderful non-profits helping people and changing lives around the state,” said David Farahi, Chief Operating Officer of Monarch Casino Resort Spa.

The average donation is just $0.15, but since the program started in March 2018, our sister property, Atlantis Casino Resort Spa Reno, has raised more than $62,000 for four non-profits.

If you head up to Monarch Casino Resort Spa to check out these new machines, there is plenty of free parking in the state-of-the-art parking garage that even features electric car chargers.
